We are excited to launch the World BEYOND War Youth Network (WBWYN). This network, ‘run by youth for youth’, serves as a platform aimed at bringing together young people and youth-serving organisations who are interested in and committed to ending war and establishing a just and sustainable peace.
Learn more about the WBWYN in our short video: WBW Youth Network – YouTube
At a time when there are more young people on the planet than ever before, and when violence around the world is at a 30-year high, equipping young people with the skills, tools, support, and networks to oppose war and advance peace is one of the largest, most global and important, challenges facing humanity.
Why is World BEYOND War doing this? Because we are committed to connecting and supporting new generations of leaders committed to the abolition of war. Further, there is no viable approach to sustainable peace and development that does not include the full and equal participation of young people in peace and security decision-making, planning, and peacebuilding processes. The network also arose in response to partner recommendations, within global policy frameworks, that call for putting youth at the centre of peacebuilding and positive changemaking efforts.
What are the objectives of the WBWYN?
The network has several objectives and related interests. These include:
- Equipping young peacebuilders: The network creates space for young people and other change makers to build their capacity around war abolition and peacebuilding work, through training, workshops, and mentoring activities.
- Empowering young people to take action. The network provides ongoing support to youth to carry out their own projects in three areas: demilitarising security, managing conflict without violence, and creating a culture of peace.
- Growing the movement. The network connects and supports a new generation of war abolishers by bringing youth and adults together to work on issues related to peace, justice, climate change, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
Who is the WBWYN for? Young people (aged 15-27) involved or interested in peacebuilding, sustainable development, and related fields. The network will also appeal to those who wish to gain access to a global network of young leaders.
Is there any cost to being part of the WBWYN? No
